About ME

IMG_7517

Hello beautiful people! My name is Alyssa, and I am a Reverent LION.  Just like I know all of you are and can be. I am a southern California girl, and I have an infectious love of life.  I avoid placing labels on myself, (because who needs those constraints) but I love yoga, intense workouts with my boo, and being fueled by plants. I have a passion for all things fitness and nutrition.  Whole foods make me HAPPY.

I wasn’t always so ecstatic. Growing up I continually struggled with my weight and fluctuated wildly. I was never content with my body, or myself and I would jump on the new fad diets, no matter the negative impact they may have.  I was unhealthy, truly unhealthy, not just because of the numbers on the scale.  I had issues with stress, insomnia, restless leg, joint pain, swelling, headaches, numbness, and often found myself sick.  Even with all of these issues, I was desperate to be thin, and I would get frustrated and skip meals followed by binging on unhealthy foods because I was so hungry and lacked the peace, knowledge, and self-control necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle.

I had always been blessed with a curious mind, and the ability to research, learn, and master new concepts.  Historically, this skill had been utilized in scholarly and professional pursuits.  My health came to an all time low during a time in my life when all of my mental, emotional, and physical resources were being dedicated to my financial analyst position.  Although my lack of health was not a consequence of my professional dedication, I came to a point where I knew I needed to “rebalance” my resources and dedicate my curious mind to my pursuit of a healthy happy lifestyle.

And so, that is exactly what I did.  I spent months with my head in fitness and nutrition books, formulating my ULTIMATE fitness and nutrition plan for both my body and soul.  Then, I got to work. One year of DEDICATION, CONSISTENCY, and PATIENCE—these are my results.  I lost about 60 lbs in one year, I no longer have any of the health issues I have listed above, and I am glowing!

What means more to me that what the picture depicts, is the peace, happiness, and contentment my body and soul emanate because of the lifestyle I have chosen to lead.  I took control of my life and I know that if I can do it, so can you.  I have detailed out my MASTER PLAN and have also added RECIPES, WORKOUTS, and INSPIRATION to help you on your journey.  Also, don’t forget to read about what REVERENT LION means, and remember, everyone’s body is different, tailor your plan to your own needs.  I am not a certified nutritionist or personal trainer.  All of the information on my site is based upon my own research and opinions.  I don’t make money from this site; I just am doing this to pay it forward! I feel blessed for the knowledge I have received and I am happy to help anyone who needs it!

  1. Alyssa, THANK YOU for starting this blog! As I read it, it was as if you were reading my mind, only I am in the beginnings of my new healthy lifestyle. Your body shape is similar to mine, so therefore, your blog has given me a renewed hope and inspiration to keep up with my work! We need more people like you!!

  2. You look amazing and are glowing! I have also always struggled with weight (never been huge but always thick). I love my curves but I have so much trouble just finding a good place and staying there. I look forward to reading the rest of your blog!

  3. I am so excited I came across your blog! I am in the process of revamping my lifestyle to set a better example for my two young daughters. Recently I lost 22lbs by removing all sugar, dairy, and grain. However after slowly adding some of the foods back in I have gained back 10lbs and can’t seem to find my motivation again. Which is discouraging. Your blog seems like a great resource. I can’t wait to explore more of it 🙂
    Thanks in advance!!

  4. Alyssa, I am so proud of you. You simply show people that beauty is not something physical. It begins deep within. It was that beauty within you that began to help guide you towrds the changes that you needed to make and give you the strength to do so. You look wonderful.

  5. Wow … I’m amazed. And inspired. I’ve been struggling with my weight since I was little and always had trouble losing weight.. But seeing your pictures and how in a year you’ve lost so much weight makes me feel like I can do it too. Thanks so much for the inspiration and motivation and you look gorgeous.

  6. Love this!!! Thank you so much for the positive encouragement!! I’ve totally switched to vegan after many indepth studies and books. Wow..I never knew so much junk was in our foods. Thanks a million!!!

  7. Wow, congratulations! You look amazing. I too can relate to your story. In 2011 i was diagnosed with Crohns. I refused to get on permanent medication I hate pills or meds period they fix one thing but brake more. So I began my journey or all natural eating. Luckily I had a friend who told me about juicing the documentary called Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead. It changed my life around & steered me to my new healthy lifestyle. I’m healthier than ever & do not have a need for medical drugs. Congrats again & keep up the great work!

  8. Alyssa, I feel so lucky that I found your blog! Your story is so similar to mine. For the past to years I have been trying to change my life style, but I still feel stuck at a plateau and don’t know why, or what to change. I’m going to take your advice and try my best to make these dreams reality. Thank you!

  9. Wow truely amazing! I want to get healthy but i dont have a plan .. My schedule is hectic and i just feel like i dont have time or money! So i just eat fast food… Its easy, quick, and cheap! I need a plan …but i dont have much support at home…everyone in my house hold eats junk.. I have seen my sister eat cake for dinner! What are some cheap and non time.consuming ways to get healthy?

    • Hey love!!! Check out “the plan” tab to get you started, and I will absolutely post some fast ideas for you! That said, the majority of my meals take no more than around 10-15 minutes to make! Xoxo

  10. Totally inspired!!! I am a 22 year old mom and before having my daughter I was super fit and muscle. I have such a hard time sticking to a “diet” or eating healthy. I just go on binges sometime on eating bad foods, more because I work in an office setting. I workout, run 3+ miles twice a week but my eating habits get in the way! I can’t wait to be happy with my body again! Loved loved your blog! :))

  11. Alyssa! I’m absolutely inspired by your instagram and now your blog! I l know you have some tips and tricks to how you started your journey but are there any books you would recommend that you found helpful? I’ve found lots of info on the web but like having it at my fingertips!

  12. Alyssa you are so inspiring! I find myself a lot like how you were before your life transformation. I have several health issues and quite frankly I am not happy. I do love life but I find being overweight leads to much frustration and depression. I want more self confidence and just to be healthy. Please help me!

  13. Hello!

My name is Hannah I am almost 20 and I am trying to build a better me. About 2 months ago I started consistently working out and eating a clean diet but I really feel like I need an extra bump. I see a lot of fitness pages that support supplements and I am very interested I just don’t know where to start! I don’t want anything harmful and just want something that utilizes my workouts and helps with toning, fat burn, weight loss all of that. I use a lean 15 protein powder but I actually JUST ran out so if you have suggestions I would love to hear them. I know you’re busy so thanks a bunch for reading this!!

    Hannah

    • I don’t take any supplements other than b-12!! I do use protein powders like plant fusion or sun warrior in some of my smoothies once in a while! Your body will actually get a lot from your foods! Hope this helps xoxo

  14. Thank you thank you thank you for doing what you’re doing! Don’t STOP! You give me so much inspiration! Thank you so very much for that.

  15. One more question, do you take vitamins? what kind? I usually take vitamin c, vitamin d, and a spirulina supplement. I also take iron supplements at night as I am border line anemic. Just wondering if you recommend anything. I see on that comment above that you take b-12 supplements, what are they?

    Thank you!!

    • I personally only take vitamin B-12 as that is the only supplement strongly recommended when you are not consuming meat. You can find it at your local health or vitamin store or online at Amazon!

  16. You’re life really challenged me and made me chose to go vegan. I follow you on instagram and you’re such an inspiration! I have a random question though, I am working out and been vegan (it’s been a week so far) but I have a concern. I have large thighs ( much like you used to) and as I’m working out I see muscle growing on them (which is great) but I really really don’t have huge bulky legs. Your legs became so thin so I’m just wondering is there workouts I shouldn’t do so my legs won’t become too bulky or what should I look out for exactly?
